Today when we took our 2 year olds up to the large activity room, we noticed an overhead projector. I realized I had not introduced them to this yet! I turned off the room lights and directed the projector to the screen. This room happens to have a stage in front of the screen - perfect for small children! They were more interested in being up near the screen rather than at the projector itself. I've found that by 3 and 4, they are more interested in the projector, understanding that it is what's producing the light. What a fun way to introduce light and shadows!
Cute! Very neat to look at, especially as Ground Hog day approaches here soon!
ReplyDeleteI had the same observation with my overhead. The 3-4 year olds horsed around with the machine itself, experimenting with how they could manipulate the shadows, but the 2's were more interested in getting up close with the shadows themselves.
ReplyDeleteOne little boy kept taking the letter shapes from the projector table and trying to stick them to the wall. He was so confused when they fell to the floor, but he kept going back and getting more, trying again and again.
