Somehow we have acquired lots and lots of crayons. I've seen this idea many times but have never tried it. My co-teacher for Busy Bakers Camp decided to offer it to those who were interested. We were surprised how many wanted to sit, unwrap, and break crayons for quite awhile. Especially some of our more energetic students! This is a great fine-motor activity. You can find the directions at Teaching Tiny Tots.
That looks like a great activity. What do you do next? Bake it until it melts?

Thanks & happy blogging!
Sorry to leave you hanging! Yes, you bake it until they melt into a crayon cookie. We found that some crayons melted faster than others, so we had some chunks that didn't melt all the way.
ReplyDeleteI made crayons with my kids this summer too. We made them with the paper cups in a muffin pan, and we also used plastic candy molds (from Michaels). Try the candy molds next time they turned out really cute, you just have to put them in the freezer for a few min after the crayons are melted. Happy Coloring!
ReplyDeleteI remember doing this as a child. Some we'd bake into rainbows, others all the same color.
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea, Nicola! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is really a cute idea my 1 year olds tend to want to sit and peel the paper off instead of coloring so I think I will do this with them some of the really energetic ones will sit still just to peel crayon papers off I found my self saying stop doing that well most of the time they are breaking them to lol well now I have an activity to go with it
