I can't believe the last day with my 3's is tomorrow! Each year seems to go by faster and faster.
It seems like yesterday that the parents brought the school supplies, including a binder with a clear pocket on the cover. Each year I use these binders to make memory books.
On parent night, I have notecards and stickers at each table. The parents write a note for their children with good wishes for the school year. I make sure these go on the first page of the memory book.
At the end of the year I write a personal note for each child. This goes in an envelope below the note from the parents.
The rest of the book is filled with any artwork that could fit on an 8.5 x 11 inch page.
Tomorrow, they will get to take these books home, along with their journals, their place mats, and a picture book that I made highlighting special events throughout the year.
This is a bittersweet time of year for me. I look back on pictures and see the growth that has taken place. I marvel at how much we all learned! I cherish the friendships that have been made.
I will miss them. They are my family! I am lucky to be teaching 10 weeks of summer camp and will get to see most of them again. But I am still sad that the year is over!

I like the idea of parents writing a note to them. What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteFor the first month or so, I display these at the children's level right beside their family photos. It was such a comfort for them to see something so personal. I'd read them the notes and they'd proudly point to their family pictures and show their new friends.
DeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amanda!
DeleteOH MY!!!! I love everything about this! I have been teaching the 3/4 year old classes for over 15 years and there is nothing I love more than finding something new and wonderful. I will definitely be adding this to our "to do" for next year. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen!
DeleteI also make a memory book for my student's. I include their pictures in the book along with their art work so that it is all in one place. I really love the idea of a note from their families. Thanks for the great ideas.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you make them for your students, too! I do think it's a nice treasure that I hope they cherish for many years. My daughter still loves to pull out her school work from when she was young. She'll be a senior in high school this year. :)
