Melting Watercolors

Fill ice cube trays with water and add some liquid watercolor. Cover trays with foil and poke a cotton swab through foil so that you have a swab in each square. Freeze.

We did this activity outside. At first the preschoolers could not get much color on their paper.

They decided to leave the cubes on their papers for awhile, playing elsewhere during the process.

When they returned, they were excited to see that the cubes had started melting on their papers.

Let the painting begin!

A great outdoor art and science activity on a warm summer day.

  1. This is a great and fun activity. Aside from teaching a little artsy creativity to our wee lasses and lads, it's also teaching a little Science.

    1. Oh yes! I do love all the learning that takes place with something that might appear so simple. :)
