Arrivals: We learned how to find our name and draw a line from left to right on our sign-in sheet.
Yesterday was the first day in our 3's class. Success! I think everyone had a wonderful first day. I paid even more attention to keeping this day simple, being very mindful to going over how we do everything. Over and over again.
We had plenty of time to play and explore. With new friends or by ourselves.
Art table: Simple group mural using cups to make circles.
All the activities were simple so that teachers could spend time focusing on getting to know the children and assisting where needed.
Fine motor table: a long sheet of paper and markers.
Looking for the picture label when putting toys away on shelves.
I made sure to allow plenty of time for clean up. We divided the class into thirds and each teacher took a group to a specific area for clean up.
Circle time: finding our personalized mats to sit on.
Our first class helper helped set the table, report the weather, ring the clean up bell, and lead the line to gym. We start our very first day with all our normal routines.
I didn't get many pictures of this day, as I was busy! But I feel good about the start to what I know will be another good year in the 3's class.

Sounds like a great start to the year.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me about the line from left to right on the sign in page. I see that there are names on the left, what's on the right? Thanks- I love your ideas...
ReplyDeleteTheir names are on the left, as you notice, and to the right is an empty column. For now, they are touching the pencil on their name and drawing a line to the right. Eventually, they will start writing their name in this space. (Actually, we already have one who is doing that.)
Deletenice to see kids are engaged with activities.. nice clicks!!
