Painting With Pumpkins

This is another new one for me, even though I've seen others do it. Now I see why it's so fun!

Painting With Mini Pumpkins!

Each year we decorate treat bags for our Harvest Festival. I invited the 3's to dip the pumpkins into red and yellow paint and stamp them onto white paper sacks.

I always look for pumpkins with nice long stems and they worked perfectly as handles for those small hands. Great fine motor exercise!

When sliding the pumpkins around a bit, the red and yellow blended nicely.

We let them dry, folded over the tops, added handles, and now we have treat bags for today's event!

Happy Halloween!

  2. Hi Sheryl,
I am so thankful to your blog. I am a pre-k teacher and have taught 4 year olds for 1 and a half year. I just got a new job but I am scared f the age -group. They are between 2-3 year old. The other staff are doubting my decision to tale the job because they are saying for the age, its all potty training all day. Do you have any insight into this? I am not a mother yet so I have no idea how much work it is to potty train. Any suggestion will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Ziba! Probably what the other staff is concerned with is moving from more independent, older preschoolers to younger, more dependent ones. Perhaps those who have only taught the older ages see this as frustrating, but I see it as part of teaching 2's and 3's independence. We spend a great deal of time at the beginning of the year showing our younger ones how to take care of themselves. It doesn't take long for them to remember the routine and it's very rewarding to watch them learn how to do more and more on their own. Yes, we do spend more time assisting them as they learn how to use the potty, and yes, we do have to change wet clothes, but it's part of the process of teaching them self-help skills. I don't see it as a negative at all! If you'd like to post this question on my Facebook wall, we can get some opinions from others as well. Good luck and don't be scared of them. You'll be amazed what they will teach YOU and the fun you will have!

      Sheryl
